Liverpool FC had a shaky start during the friendlies, before the season kicked off. Yes, they did win 6 matches out of 9, but were not able to establish their prominence. Something similar seemed to be obvious after getting 2 matches into the season. Winning a very hard fought match against Arsenal, and then losing to a comparatively weaker side in the next match. But, since then, it has been 10 matches till date that Liverpool have not lost. The club has won 8 matches, and drawn 2 out of the 10 across all competitions.
The last match that Liverpool lost, was an away encounter on the 20th of August, against Burnley, which ended up 2-0 in the host’s favour. Since then the club has moved on to score a massive 26 goals and conceed just 7. The team was able to produce a clean sheet on three instances. Twice in the EFL cup, and once in the EPL.
The current form of the club gives out a strong signal about the team’s improvement. Also this comes back to the team as an encouragement to keep performing better. For us fans, this is an indicator that a very successful season awaits us. It also reminds us of the start that we had in the 2013/14 season - a start that propelled us to fight for the top spot on the table.
This might be a little early to announce that Klopp and his team will be title contenders, but we can still be optimistic. Especially after looking at the efforts that the team is putting into the matches. Every player is playing to win the match, Klopp’s instructions are being followed to the point, the execution is supreme. The 10 match streak provides a huge momentum which in turn invigorates the players to keep performing well.
The Reds will travel tomorrow to face off against Crystal Palace. Crystal Palace are currently placed 11th on the table, but the Reds cannot take this fixture lightly. Palace have a strong record against Liverpool at Selhurst Park despite a defeat last season and have won four of the last seven league matches there. Alan Pardew will be hoping that this best man, Jason Puncheon is fit enough to play in the match. The Reds defenders will have to prepare themselves to face Christian Benteke. Set pieces have been the weakness for the Reds, and Benteke seems to be good at converting them.
Let’s hope that the Reds manage to get the cucial 3 points out of the match and countinue the winning streak. Go LFC!! YNWA!!!
